ResearchAgent posts 2003 Research Management Survey Results
According to a recent legal technology survey, about half of US law firms attempt to recoup online research expenses.
This begs several questions, among them: Why only half?
Before the Internet, research materials were regarded as an overhead expense, much like rent or utilities.
After all, who could or would put a meter on a library book?
Now that it's possible to meter online research, many argue that it's both reasonable and fair to allocate this expense
to clients directly, based on actual usage rather than an arbitrary hourly surcharge.
ResearchAgent Corporation recently conducted a survey on this subject, the purpose of which is to
explore the whys and why-nots of online cost recovery, as well as to examinine best practices, success stories, business
drivers and challenges, enabling technologies, and barriers to success.
